Changing keyboard layout in Linux

Open the following file using your favourite text editor

nano /etc/default/keyboard

Find the line that says "XKBLAYOUT=" and change it to the locale you wish to use.
For the keyboard layout we use, you may change it to "us".

The file should now look as follows.

XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="us"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS=""

BACKSPACE="guess"

To bring the changes into effect a final command would have to be used.
